Duval Lawton's grandfather cut hair. His father cut hair across the river in New Jersey. Duval grew up watching them work — the clippers, the small talk, the regulars who came in with one problem and walked out with two haircuts and a friend. He's the third generation. Locale, opened April 2023, is his first shop of his own.
"I knew I wanted to be a barber at fifteen," he says. "I saw how much they loved my dad. The way he could read a room. The way a chair becomes a place where things actually get said." He moved back to Brooklyn — born here — to set up Locale on Tompkins Ave.
Three years in, Locale has earned 185 reviews and a 4.9-star average. Repeat clients, walk-ins, parents bringing their kids, neighbors who started in the chair next door and now call the barber by first name.
